REDD+ and Gender: A Reflection from COP 16 in Cancun
Manohara Khadka explains: "While traveling from Kalikot to Okhaldhunga for empowering smallholder farmers and disadvantaged groups in practicing sustainable soil management technologies and decentralised agriculture extension practices, WOCAN brought me to the UNFCC, COP 16 at Cancun to speak of and learn about gender issue in REDD+ and climate change."
"This article is my reflection of "change" and "REDD+" from gender perspective. Thanks to WOCAN for introducing me to global gender advocates, global body of REDD and climate change experts who included me on panels to speak up on gender issues in REDD at Cancun. I am also thankful to HIMAWANTI-Nepal for teaching me the grassroots women's struggles in natural resource management. This knowledge allowed me to speak up in side events such as "missing link to success: women in REDD" and "strategy planning session to integrate gender and women in REDD+" initiatives organised by WOCAN."
