Strengthening Rural Women's Leadership in Farmer and Producer Organizations: Experiences from Nepal and the Philippines
The project objectives were:
- To strengthen the role and voice of women leaders in rural organizations at all levels
- To increase the responsiveness of national policies, programmes and institutions to the needs and potential of rural women producers and labourers
- To build regional/country capacity to train and mentor rural women leaders
- To prepare women members of producer organisations as leaders and change agents in their organizations
- To foster enabling environments within these organizations for gender sensitivity and women's leadership
- To promote the lobbying capacity and involvement of women farmer organisation leaders in national, regional and globally policy processes
- To create a sustaining network of allies of women leaders
The project main themes were:
- Main obstacles to women assuming leadership roles in these organizations
- Effective ways to strengthen women's capacities for leadership
- How to expand representation of women at all levels?
- Impact of women's leadership on farmer and producer organizations
