This Privacy Policy applies to Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and NRM ("WOCAN", "we", "us") and its affiliates in relation to their operations and explains how we handle, collect and disclose personal information and comply with the requirements of applicable privacy laws ("Privacy Laws").

WOCAN collects and holds personal information from users of our website at http://www.wocan.org/ as well as from individuals who contact us directly via email or telephone and other individuals who provide us with information in connection with our services. We collect this information when it is necessary for the purpose of running our organization and providing its services.

The types of personal information WOCAN may collect and hold about you will depend on the circumstances in which that information is collected.  It may include: contact and personal details, information required for recruitment purposes and statistical information such as cookies on the use of the WOCAN websites.

a) when you submit information while downloading documents or the W+ unit purchase payment process on our website;

b) when you register for subscriptions to our newsletter, updates, or other related information/publications through our website;

c) when you use our website, in which case our system may automatically collect information relating to your visit to our websites, such as your IP address;

d) when you are involved in providing content for use on the website or otherwise;

e) when you contact us (through our website, social media, via email or phone) with complaints, queries, issues or request that we, our content providers, or associates contact you; or

f) when you participate in our promotions or competitions; or

g) when we receive personal information through third party service providers.

If you do not provide us with the information we request, we may not be able to fulfill the purpose of collection, such as to supply services to you, and you may be unable to fully participate in our website or purchase W+ Units from our website or otherwise.

If we receive information about you from someone else (for example from someone who supplies goods or services to us), we will take reasonable steps to ensure you are aware that we have collected personal information about you and the circumstances of the collection.

  • provide you with information, content,  products and/or services, including the processing of buying W+ units ;
  • improve information, content, products and/or services or our website;
  • enable our content providers and associates to provide you with information, products and/or services.  Note that your personal information will only be provided to our content providers upon your request;
  • keep you informed about activities, content, products and services associated with our website;
  • respond to your complaints, queries, request and issues;
  • facilitate access to and management of our website;
  •  undertake research and surveys, analyze statistical information, and conduct competitions and promotions; and
  • operate our organization efficiently.

We will only use or disclose personal information for a purpose other than for which it was collected or a related purpose if:

  • you have consented to such different use or disclosure; or
  • such use or disclosure is otherwise allowed by the Privacy Laws; or
  • we believe it necessary to protect the rights, property or personal safety of another person or WOCAN; or

We may disclose personal information collected outside of the jurisdiction in which it was collected.  In the conduct of our business, we transfer to, hold or access personal information from all countries.

Direct marketing

If you have signed up to receive it, we may, from time to time, use personal information you have provided to us (including your email address, postal address and telephone number) to send you marketing related materials including information about our services and how you can become further involved with our organization. If you are receiving promotional information from us and do not wish to receive this information any longer, please contact WOCAN direct on info@wocan.org asking to be removed from our mailing lists, or use the unsubscribe facilities included in such communications.

The use of cookies

We may use cookie technology on our websites to provide information and services to web site visitors in as convenient a manner as possible. Cookies are pieces of information that a website transfers to your computer's hard disk for record keeping purposes and facilitate many online transactions. Most web browsers are set to accept cookies. Cookies are useful to estimate our number of members and determine overall traffic patterns through our websites. We will endeavor to take all reasonable steps to keep secure any information which we hold about you. Your information is stored on secure servers that are protected in controlled facilities. WOCAN requires our employees and data processors to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us.

In respect of all online dealings, unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet can be absolutely guaranteed to be secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us through our website and you use our website at your own risk.

Accessing and correcting the information we keep about you

If at any time you want to know exactly what personal information we hold about you, you are welcome to request access to your record by contacting us at info@wocan.org. Our file of your information will usually be made available to you within a reasonable period, which will depend on the complexity of your request. Where possible, we seek to respond to requests within 14 days so that you are aware of the status of your request.

We will consider and respond to all questions and complaints, and will respond within a reasonable time in writing.

In most cases we will ask that you put your request in writing to us. We will investigate your complaint and will use reasonable endeavors to respond to you in writing within 30 days of receiving the written complaint.  If we fail to respond to your complaint within 30 days of receiving it in writing or if you are dissatisfied with the response that you receive from us, you may have the right to make a complaint to your local privacy regulator.

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time and notify you by posting an updated version of the policy on our website. Any such changes will take effect no less than 14 days after such posting to give you time to review the changes.
