Jeannette Gurung on The Gold Standard’s Climate Smart Agriculture Advisory Panel

Jeannette Gurung, Executive Director WOCAN, has become one of the members of the Climate Smart Agriculture Advisory Panel of The Gold Standard. The Advisory Panel will provide technical, scientific and strategic input and recommendations on what should be the key components of the new ‘Climate Smart Agriculture’ scope in terms of the social and ecological requirements, reflected in The Gold Standard’s Do-No-Harm Assessment (top-down criteria) and Sustainable Development Matrix (bottom-up criteria). For input on carbon accounting methodologies, other bodies will be created.

The Gold Standard Principles and The Gold Standard Framework on Land Use & Forests will form the basis of The Gold Standard expansion into ‘Climate Smart Agriculture’. Furthermore, Fairtrade International will be a key partner, providing their extensive experience with regards to helping producers to sustainably strengthen their livelihoods, by applying sustainable agricultural practices, thus improving their climate resilience and mitigating their ecological impact. Also, experiences gleaned from the development and implementation of the afforestation/reforestation requirements and guidelines will also help to ensure the smooth expansion into this new area.
