On 9-13 Sept, WOCAN, Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forest (LEAF) and the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) conducted the training on Gender Integrated Planning in Climate Change/REDD+ in Attapeu Province, Lao PDR. There were 26 participants from national, provincial and district offices of MAF, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the National Division of Advancement of Women and the Lao Women’s Union to build awareness of gender issues in climate change and REDD+ and experiment with hands-on gender analysis for integrated planning.
The objectives of the training are:
- To build the knowledge level of the participants on the basic concepts, methods and tools for integrating gender into project planning, and within their respective organizations.
- To develop the capacity of the participants in conducting gender analyses in REDD+ related projects.
- To examine the gender-disaggregated roles and status of men and women in forestry and other natural resource management sectors.
- To develop skills to prepare ‘Action plans’ for organizations who wish to integrate gender into its organizational structure and culture.
Similar training is planned for Vietnam from 21-25 October.
