WOCAN Organized The Global Meeting of Women’s Leadership Circles in Nairobi, Kenya

The Global Meeting of Women’s Leadership Circles was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from Feb. 18th to 20th, 2013. The Women’s Leadership Circle (WLC) is a national level platform to develop women’s leadership, promote regular dialogue between women policy makers/professionals and women farmers to promote enhanced policy implementation that meet the needs of rural women. The three day meeting was attended by 24 women farmers,policy makers and coordintors from Kenya, Nepal, Maldives and South Africa.

The meeting was held to refine the methodology for the Women’s Leadership Circles, based on challenges and opportunities shared by national WLC members, and to develop country action plans.The participants also attended the High Level Forum on Gender and Environment organized by UNEP and NWMLE on Feb 17th and had an opportunity to share and discuss issues with the ministers and leaders at the breakfast meeting on Feb 19th.

The meeting was also streamed live through WOCAN ustream channel ‘WOCAN Live’. Over 300 viewers watched the live and recorded sessions; several provided questions and positive remarks. We hope to stream all upcoming WOCAN events to enhance WOCAN member engagement.
