Maris Gavino, WOCAN Liaison Officer in Rome, attended the First Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum organized by IFAD and partners, including the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), in Rome on 11-12 February, 2013. Indigenous Peoples (IPs)of Asia, Africa, the Pacific, Latin America and Caribbean, came together to dialogue with international and government institutions.During the Forum, IPs called on IFAD, interalia, to devise measures for affirmative action targeting women and youth. An afternoon’s session was dedicated to discuss increasing opportunities for indigenous women as key actors for IPs’ well-being.
