WOCAN contributed to the lobby document prepared by the CSOs in response to High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) study on food security and climate change. This study is going to be presented at the 39th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), 15-20 October. The CSOs felt that the report did not address some of the major issues or were not emphasized enough in the document.
Therefore, a lobby document was drawn up to put forward additional important issues related to food security and climate change.
- The Right to Food and Rights of Indigenous Peoples were felt to be paramount concepts that policy makers have to imbibe.
- Another felt need to address food security in a changing climate was the prioritization and scaling up of agro-ecological models especially by smallscale farmers, majority of whom are women farmers.
A notable and worthy element to WOCAN’s favor, among other things, is an action on supporting CSOs, such as women farmers organization, to fully and actively participate in decision making and implementation of food security policies and programs to address climate change.
