WOCAN together with the Himalaya Climate Initiative, the Mid-Western Regional Secretariat of NGO – Nepal Climate Change Network and Population Action (PAI) International conducted an awareness and consultation programme on gender and climate change in Nepalgunj on 10 August, 2012. Key issues and initiatives on gender and climate change were presented and the film produced by PAI ‘Weathering Change’ was screened. The interaction that followed the presentation identified key issues, challenges and possible actions for the future. Some of the key issues raised were women participation in decision making positions/platforms and access to the district and local levels resources. Around 50 people from the government line agencies and the district level civil society organisations participated. The Local Development Officer (LDO) in his speech ensured that the DDC is open and willing to support gender and climate change related for programmes and projects.
This is part of the Gender and Climate Change consultation and screening of the film, next screening would be in Biratnagar (19 Aug) and kathmandu (24 Aug).
