Grow To Zero – Gold Standard Conference 2023

W+ Standard coordinator recently attended the Gold Standard conference, which provided a platform to discuss crucial topics related to climate action and sustainable development, such as financing a climate-secure, sustainable society, the need to generate high quality carbon credits, and Nature-based solutions (NBS) and their potential in addressing societal challenges, protecting the environment, and providing social benefits. The conference emphasized defining what constitutes “good” targets and how to achieve them, with the objective of delivering action.

The conference also delved into the challenges and solutions for financing a climate-secure, sustainable society. It recognized the need for scaling up finance and identified scale as the biggest challenge. The conference explored various financial solutions, including public, private, multilateral development banks, philanthropy, and carbon markets. Participants emphasized the importance of building the capacity of the private sector to invest in sustainable projects and integrating impact considerations in decision making and value chains. Additionally, discussions centered around increasing investor confidence, reducing risk perceptions, and investing in regulatory environments to have a greater impact on the global south.

Overall, the Gold Standard conference provided a valuable platform for discussing sustainable finance, nature-based solutions, and corporate responsibility.
