Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI), in association with Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resources (WOCAN) and Kopila Nepal supported by Population Action International organized the screening of the short documentary ‘Weathering Change’, and a consultation workshop on Gender and Climate Change in Pokhara on 6th July 2012 .The program was attended by 90 participants from various backgrounds; the policy makers representing various Government Organizations, Development Sector, NGOs, CBOs, representatives of women groups (Aama Samuha) from different communities and representative from various media agency.
The screening of the documentary was followed by discussions on the key issues related to gender and Climate Change and what needs to be done to address them. The discussion session was moderated by Mrs. Dibya Gurung from WOCAN. Mrs. Gurung said, ‘The impacts of Climate Change are different between men and women. In Nepal, more than 75% women are engaged in agriculture, making them most vulnerable to the impacts of Climate Change.’
