WLCAN Members Registered their Women’s Group & Received Support from Member of the County Assemb…

On 19 May, Institute of Environment and Water Management (IEWM) with support from WOCAN organized the Women Leadership Circle in Agriculture and NRM (WLCAN) meeting in Gathara, Nyandarua County, Kenya. There were 17 participants (15 women and 2 men) from, Mukiri Tene Women Group, Midhill Self Help Group, Gathara Mwihoko Women Group and Kinyahwe Group. The meeting was facilitated by Elijah Kimani, Deputy Director of IEWM and the special speaker was Daniel Kibebo Gathege, Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

In the previous WLCAN meeting the farmers developed an action plan and one of the activities was to register their groups with the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Development . The women of the Mwihoko Gathara Women Group presented their registration certificate and also showed that they have opened a bank account which has over 40,000 Kenya Shillings in savings. The group now has 30 members and growing. The MCA who was present at previous meeting, promised to support the women with Kenya Shillings 5000 if they actualized their plans of registering, at the meeting Daniel Kibebo Gathege, presented the promised amount to the chairperson of Mwihoko Gathara Women Group.

The participants also went to visit the project which grows high nutrients fodder for their livestock in order to increase milk production
