On Dec 2012, Anabelle Waititu, WOCAN Core Associate, conducted the ‘Lifestraw Carbon for Water Project Survey’ for Nedbank Capital . The main objective of this survey was to generate information on the effectiveness of the Sustainable Deployment of the LifeStraw® Family – a Gold Standard project funded and enacted by Vestergaard S.A. that seeks to distribute over 1 million LifeStraw® Family units in rural Kenya. The LifeStraw Filter units treat contaminated drinking water, allowing the project to meet its aim of reducing reliance on firewood for boiling water. About 60 households in four districts benefiting from the Life Straw Project participated in the survey. The survey found that 97% of the households have been using their Life Straw regularly. Significantly, women noted that Life Straw saves them time, and reduces their workloads, as other family members share their water-related tasks.
