On 4 April, Dibya Gurung, WOCAN Nepal Coordinator, facilitated the GESI Learning Alliance Workshop organized by IFAD Nepal in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dibya is also the Project Coordinator for IFAD/WOCAN project “Capacity Building for Women’s Leadership in Farmer Producer Organizations in the Asia and the Pacific Region”, currently implemented in Lao PDR, the Maldives and Sri Lanka. The main objectives of the workshop were to share the leanings of IFAD/WOCAN project and to discuss gaps and opportunities for integrating GESI within organization and programs of IFAD Nepal. There were total of 9 participants (4 women and 5 men), who are gender focal points, project managers and planners. In addition to the participants Mr. Benoit Thierry, IFAD Country Program Manager for Nepal, Mr. Bashu Aryal, IFAD Nepal Country Programme Office, Mr. Raj Babu Shrestha, Executive Director at Poverty Alleviation Fund, Mr. Carlo Bravi, project coordinator of Investment Center division of FAO who is leading an IFAD/FAO initiative in improving low performing IFAD-funded projects in Nepal and Ms. Kukka Korhonen, Associate Professional Officer for Nepal also joined briefly in support of the workshop.
Dibya shared the learnings from the IFAD/WOCAN project and also facilitated the session to develop GESI action plans for each project which will be included in the next annual plan and log frame of the projects. The participants also decided to organize similar event in rotation basis by each project which will be supported by the IFAD Country Office.
