On 9-13 Sept, WOCAN, Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forest (LEAF) and the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) conducted atraining on Gender Integrated Planning in Climate Change/REDD+ in Attapeu Province, Lao PDR. Twenty-sixparticipants from national, provincial and district offices of MAF, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the National Division of Advancement of Women and the Lao Women’s Union participatedto build awareness of gender issues in climate change and REDD+ and experiment with hands-on gender analysis for integrated planning.
The objectives of the training were:
1) To build the knowledge level of the participants on the basic concepts, methods and tools for integrating gender into project planning, and within their respective organizations.
2) To develop the capacity of the participants in conducting gender analyses in REDD+ related projects.
3) To examine the gender-disaggregated roles and status of men and women in forestry and other natural resource management sectors.
4) To develop skills to prepare ‘Action plans’ for organizations who wish to integrate gender into its organizational structure and culture.
The lessons from the trainings will be used to inform and adapt training materials that will be shared at the regional level. Additionally, the capacity needs identified during these trainings will be addressed through LEAF’s Asia-Pacific Leadership Program on Gender and Climate Change/REDD+, currently planned for November 2013.
