Maris Gavino,WOCAN Liaison Officer in Rome,represented WOCAN in the High Level Consultationon Food and Nutrition Security, organized by FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, 29 January – 1 February. The Consultation aims to integrate nutrition into the ASEAN Integrated Food Security Framework and its Strategic Plan of Action for Food Security.
During the roundtable workshop on multisectoral coordination, multistakeholder engagement, capacity building, Maris put forward gender sensitization as a focus in the effort to integrate nutrition in the ASEAN Food Security Framework and Strategic Plan of Action. The other major recommendations of the workshop were:
- provide institutional engagement of civil society organizations in national and regional policy and decision making
- improve public and private partnerships and foster continuous dialogue
- harmonize norms, guidelines and standards as part of the coordination mechanism among the multisectoral and multistakeholder parties
- promote capacity development, knowledge exchange and education.
These were presented to the ASEAN Senior Officials in Agriculture and Fisheries (SOM-AMAF) and Senior Official of Health (SOM-HD) in a joint session held 31 January 2013.
