WOCAN Represented at the European Lobby on Women in the European Parliament’s Women’s Day…

Maris Gavino, WOCAN Liaison Officer in Rome, was invited byThe Italian Coordinator for European Lobby on Women in the European Parliament fortheir roundtable discussion on the theme, ‘Women: From being victims to potential resources during the crisis’. It was organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The introduction to the discussion by the President of the Italian Coordinator on Women Lobby, Siusi Casaccia, touched on proposals to strengthen women’s rights and equality within Europe’s Strategy 2020. This was followed by a discussion on the impact of the Italian economic crisis on women including migrant women as presented by the Secretary General of the Lobby, Ludovica Tranquilli -Leali and Pilar Saravia. The problems and opportunities for women in the work force was the interesting topic. It was argued by the speaker, Economics Professor Fiorella Kostoris, that the men were affected the most during the financial and industrial crisis since these sectors were dominated by men. It was the opportunity for women to impose equality in the work force.
