UN Women Cambodia Workshop: Promote dialogue and joint action on gender and CC/DRR among CSOs

Nisha Onta, Regional Coordinator for Asia, was one of the panel speakers during this UN Women workshop. Nisha gave a brief overview of the rationale to include gender equality issues with climate finance and provided the example of the W+ Standard as one of the mechanisms to integrate and measure women’s empowerment with climate projects.

This workshop brought together CSOs in Cambodia whose work focuses on gender equality and women’s empowerment and CSOs who work on climate change and DRR for this knowledge exchange dialogue. The workshop focused explicitly on gender and climate change which covered a discussion on gender and climate change/disaster risk reduction regional legal framework, climate change justice and human right, climate change financing and opportunity for gender responsive budgeting.

The objective of the workshop is to contribute to closing the gap among CSOs who works on gender and climate change/DRR and bring them together for joint action and intervention and chart a way forward for better collaboration and greater effectiveness to enhance impacts in gender mainstreaming in climate change action and DRR. This workshop, presented as a multi-stakeholder and participatory learning event aims to provide an opportunity to share experiences and ideas and gain knowledge and evidence across this complex topic, relevant to specific contexts and levels (macro-, meso and local), and allowing to scale up and improve the effectiveness and tangible impact of efforts over time.

The participants represented the following CSOs: Gender and Development for Cambodia, Community outreach Banteay Srey , Women Peace Maker, Silika, Advocacy NGO-Forum, ActionAid Cambodia, Life with Dignity (LWD) and Cooperation For Alleviation of Poverty (COFAP).
